Classification: Primitive achondrite (Acapulcoite) based on oxygen isotopes which are coincident with the acapulcoite/lodranite field, distinguished from lodranite type by the modal abundance of plagioclase and the re...
Acapulcoite is defined as a fine-grained meteorite with an equigranular texture and an essentially chondritic mineralogy, primarily composed of olivine, low-Ca pyroxene, Ca-rich pyroxene, plagioclase, metal, and troil...
Acapulcoites and lodranites represent highly metamorphosed to partially molten chondritic rocks. They are now widely believed to form an evolutionary related sequence from a single parent body.
Acapulcoites and lodranites are igneous rocks recognized as a family (or clan) of primitive achondrites that have common mineralogical, petrographic and geochemical features.
About 53 acapulcoites have been documented. They have a finely-crystalline texture and are composed of a mix of mafic silicate minerals (olivine, pyroxenes, plagioclase feldspar) and metallic iron-nickel.

An acapulcoite is a primitive achondrite belonging to a small group named after the only witnessed fall, the 1.9 kg Acapulco meteorite.
General: The meteorites of this group are named for Acapulco, a primitive achondrite that fell in Mexico in 1976. Since its composition is near to chondritic, Acapulco was initially classified as an anomalous chondrit...
