Approved is an old category that doesn't really mean anything, it's basically just a leftover from the older ranking system. In pretty much all ways that matter, Approved = Ranked. I don't know if there's extra nuance...
What is the difference between Approved and Ranked Beatmaps? I see some maps that are Approved which are single difs <5min long that are worth pp, but other maps that are also approved are not worth pp.
